Statement on the death of HM The Queen

Statement from Councillor Ethan Hopkinson, The Deputy Mayor of Irthlingborough and Deputy Chairman (Political) of Irthlingborough Conservatives, following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Irthlingborough Conservatives join with people across the country, and the world, in mourning the death of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and our thoughts and prayers are with The Royal Family at this sad time.

Queen Elizabeth reigned for 70 years, becoming the longest serving monarch in British history, and guided us through times of sadness, times of celebration, times of unity and times of division.

The United Kingdom, the Commowealth and the world has lost its greatest public servant.

At the age of 21 The Queen vowed that her ‘whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service’.

In that spirit, just days ago The Queen undertook the constitutional duty of appointing the new Prime Minister.

The celebrations earlier this year showed the impact that The Queen had on each of our lives and the drastic changes that have happened during her reign.

She took the throne with Churchill in Downing Street and died shortly after appointing her third female Prime Minister.

During the Period of National Mourning campaigning by the Conservative Party nationally, and locally, has been suspended and Irthlingborough Town Council has lowered the Union Flag on Parsons Green to half-mast and suspended Council meetings.

But the beauty of monarchy is the continuity and stability that it gives us as a nation.

The Queen is dead. Long live The King.
